India in Olympics London 2012




        India won 2 silver medals and 4 bronze medal making a total of 6 in the London olympics 2012. This is the best ever performance of India in terms of number of medals. The Indian Olympic Association had sent a total of 83 athletes to compete in 13 sports.

Vijay Kumar and Sushil Kumar won Silver in men's 25 m rapid fire pistol event and 66 kg Freestyle wrestling respectively. Mary Kom, Gagan Narang, Saina Nehwal, and Yogeshwar Dutt added 4 bronze medal to India. They won these medals in Women's flyweight category in Boxing, 10 metre air rifle, women's singles in badminton, and 60 kg Freestyle Wrestling respectively.
 The final medal tally is as follows
1) USA - 46 29 29 104
2) China - 38 27 23 88
3) Great Britain - 29 17 19 65
4) Russia - 24 26 32 82

 India Finishes 55th in the medal tally with a total of 6.

Olympics - London 2012

Its the third time London hosted the Olympic Games. It has hosted the event before in 1908 and 1948..
We have come through a fortuitous series of events (opening ceremony). A lot of events are yet to be covered. The games have passed the mid way.
 China over come United States in the medal tally. China posses a total of 64 medal(31 Gold,19 Silver,14 Bronze). Right behind, United states bangs 61 medals(28 Gold,14 Silver,19 Bronze). united kingdom with 40 medals (18 Gold,11 Silver,11 Bronze) comes to the third spot

 As of now (6.08.2012) India bangs the 41st position in the medals table. India now holds 1 Silver(Kumar Vijay), 2 Bronze(Neha Agarwal,Narang Gagan).

MC Mary Kom assured India its fourth Olympic medal after winning her quarterfinal boxing bout against Maroua Rahali of Tunisia in the women's boxing (51 kg category). Kom beated her opponet by 15-6 margin.

The five-time world champion and the face of women's boxing in India for the past decade has now assured at least a bronze medal in the inaugural edition of women's boxing for India. She will also be the third woman after Karnam Malleswari and Saina Nehwal to win an Olympic medal for the nation.
